Mounted Police Training Academy
Course Description: Designed for the beginning rider/new mounted officer. This course teaches students the basics of mounted patrol equitation, equine anatomy and conformation, equine psychology, basic and tactical formations for crowd control, sensory and obstacle training of the horse, VIP security, and mounted firearms training.
Who should attend: Those officers and posse unit candidates wishing to obtain a base knowledge in mounted police techniques. Some previous riding experience necessary (walk, trot, and canter).
Course Hours: 40 + hrs.
Course Description: Designed for the mounted officer wishing to advance his or her skills. Intermediate riding skills are necessary. Classes include a review of basic crowd control techniques, advanced crowd control techniques, horse psychology and anatomy, refresher of basic equitation techniques through intermediate, and search and rescue operations.
Who should Attend: Those officers and posse unit members that have already completed one or more of the following:
Course Hours: 40 hrs.
Course Description: This course is designed for the experienced mounted officer. Having attended your agencies basic instructor techniques course is highly recommended but not required. This course covers multiple aspects of adult learning, how to write and prepare lesson plans, impromptu, and public speaking. Student instructors will be required to demonstrate a higher level of riding ability and create, plan and teach their fellow instructor students on a given topic in a classroom setting. Student instructors are required to develop a power point presentation for this class. Student instructors will also be required to teach a practical exercise in an arena setting. Access to a laptop computer is highly recommended.
Who Should Attend: Those officers who are or striving to become unit trainers.
Course Hours: 80 hrs (two week course)
Course Description: This course takes the student from casual rider to trained mounted posse member. The course covers topics such as basic mounted police formation riding, parade riding, obstacles, police sensory training techniques, defensive tactics from horse back and much more.
*Note: The Mounted Posse course is not an accredited course through S.P.I. at this time.
Who Should Attend: This course is open to any agency sponsored individual needing training to be eligible for selection to a mounted posse, an entire group forming a new mounted posse, or any existing mounted posse wishing to attend a refresher course.
Course Hours: 40 hrs.
Course Description: This course is designed to address previously learned skills by the mounted officer or posse member and enhance those skills. Topics covered include advanced equitation, sensory training, crowd control, and formation riding.
Who Should Attend: This course should be considered by any mounted patrol or posse member wishing to update their skills.
Course Hours: 24 hrs. (three days)
Course Description: We can tailor a clinic or seminar to fit your needs. These courses range between 2 and 3 days depending on your needs and can be scheduled on weekdays or weekends. For more information please contact us directly.
Who Should Attend: These courses should be attended by those wishing to enhance their riding skills by riding and working in a team environment. (These courses are intended for groups of riders with a focus on team building techniques and obstacle negotiation)
